Outside Magazine: “Stay Fit Forever”

cover_jun2007_toc.jpgAfter reading the most recent issue of Outside magazine, June 2007. I was inspired, once again, to be an active outdoors enthusiast by the old guys that dominate in the activities/sports they are involved with. Basically, the magazine has athletes such as Laird Hamilton (Big Wave Surfer/Nut) and Ned Overend (Mountain Bike Badass) speaking on the benefits of cross training. Always remember, one cannot go without injury without balancing out the muscle groups that we do not use in the sports which we are most active in. With this said, it is great to read the words of such masters as they talk about their involvment in so many other sports to keep their bodies active, strong, and most of all balanced…

“You have to go and try different stuff. The thing is, when we reach a certain level in any sport, you become so efficient at it that the effort level really is diminished. Your body has adapted. So what are you getting? Snowboarding has helped my surfing. Windsurfing has helped my surfing. Biking, for sure, has helped my surfing.”

My new shoes just arrived

I am training for the Rock N Roll Marathon on June 3rd. My training started on January 2, 2007 and to date I have gone through 3 pair of shoes. I ran 21 miles on Saturday and my right knee began to feel like a dragon was breathing on it by mile 16. I knew it was time for a new pair of shoes.

I have stuck with the Brook’s Axiom the entire time. The shoe is light weight and comfortable but breaks down after 300 miles or so. I went by Snail’s Pace yesterday but they were out of stock so they shipped them to me. I am going to take them to Maui to try to break them in. Leaving for Maui on Thursday. Sushi paradise!

Happy trails,

Andy

Instead of running tonight

Instead of running tonight, Dave and I had a meeting about our next steps in launching this site. We began the conversation over pizza at Ball Park. Dave got his with no cheese which I used to think was weird but now I love it. I think we have a good game plan to launch the site. My buddy Dave Harris is helping with the template and Dave Sheek is going to begin working on editorial tonight. It is pretty exciting! Dave Sheek and I hope to have the site up and firing by June/July. More to come!
