Road ride with some buddies tonight

Ty Mattson, Pat Brumfield and I did a 13 mile road ride through Irvine tonight after work. It was a quick leg spinner and a good time to hang out. These are dudes that I have been buddies with for years. It’s funny looking back on it, 5 years ago we would have never thought about wearing spandex and bright jersey’s. Wow, babies, wives and extra weight really change your mind set.

I do want to point out that my bike, Senor Masi is amazing! This beauty was picked up as a steal for only $800 for my good buddy Dave Sheek. What a sucker!

Rode a quick loop through Whiting Ranch last night

Whiting Ranch is my staple MTB ride. I have been riding it 2 – 3 days a week for the last 2 years. It’s the ride I know best.

Coming off the race on Sunday (I will post about this soon) and racing again in 2 weeks I wanted to get right back on the bike. The race on Sunday was an on road sprint and the race in 2 weeks is an Xterra off road sprint. Sometimes it takes me a while to get resettled going from bike to bike.

The fun thing about last night is that my legs felt strong. Without pushing it I was still able to put in a good loop (7.28 miles) time at 47 minutes. Fun stuff.

Check the Summer Gear List at My Childhood Hangout!

As a kid I spent hours following my older brother to work and the beach to be cool, that didn’t work!
With all the hours spent watching him and his friends hangout at Becker and get paid to talk about surfboards I learned a thing or two about stuff. They have a cool Summer Gear List with the essentials for those hitting the sand this summer.

Check out the deals at Becker:

I highly recommend the reef girls calendar at only $10.

Dave and I are cluess if anyone is reading the blog. We think a few people are reading it, like both of our mom’s but not much more. Mom’s are really good like that. Posting a comment on the site takes 15 seconds. If you don’t mind, leave us a little comment under this post to say hello. It will help give us a gage of who’s out there. When you post feel free to comment on reasons why you love Dave.

I love everything Patagonia, part 2

A while back Julie and I were shopping for casual shoes for me. It had been a year since my last shoe purchase. Etnies…no, Nike…probably not, La Gear, I’ll just borrow Dave’s. While at Adventure 16 Julie stumbled upon the new shoe line from Patagonia. It was there on the shoe sales floor that we caught eyes. From first glance I couldn’t take my eyes off them. The Patagonia Cedar was calling my name. They had to become mine, I was taking them home!

My pair getting packed for our weekend trip:

It’s been a great shoe to wear to work, on business trips, sushi dinners, to the park or while I am simply big pimpin around town in my Suby. ParagonSports.com has an incredible deal on them. Free shipping and almost $30.00 off. I paid $109.00 for mine and they are on sale for $76.00.

Don’t Count Your Own Beats!

While exercising try a heart rate monitor. I use one often whether its on the bike or running. There are different types of monitors/computers as they can be a wrist-watch or computer that attaches to your equipment, with many different features as they grow in price.

A simple heart rate monitor is cool to take ones exercise to the next level. Check out the heart rate monitors on sale at some of our affiliates.

Here is one that I like and found at a good price:

Remember when your left arm goes numb your pushing too hard, get a monitor!

What is your race week routine?

This weekend, actually Sunday, Julie and I are doing a sprint triathlon in San Luis Obispo along with her brother Bryan, sister Alison and our brother in-law Alex. My problem with race weeks is that I am hesitant to train so I error on the side of not doing much. This in turn affects my diet because I am not as concerned with what I eat since I’m not training. UGHHHH! For instance, today at my day job we took at a team day and went to the Orange County Fair. My lunch today is below.

Wet Burrito Ala Cart-er

Eating burritos + playing in the fountain = wet burrito ala Carter!

After working tonight Andy and I met the wife and kid (skinny) for a little dinner and fun. Here is the run down… Carter (skinny) never eats but he loves when we play in the fountain at our local burrito spot. However, tonight for some reason he was interested in eating my burrito, how can you say no to a kid that is malnourished? So, as he ran around wildly screaming, “Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!” and waving his arms in the air, he would stop by for a bite of my burrito. It was cute except for the part where he would rub his wet cheeks and snot on my food.

Oh well, I finished what he didn’t because burritos are good and a major part of my diet.

Check out the skinny wet burrito monster:
Dave here I come for more burrito!Give me back my burrito fool!

Accessories Rule!

I love new gear and when I don’t have enough to pay for my, I want something now, needs, I buy accessories. For example, the other night when I was car camping at the race I went to the store, where I bought a little flashlight with LED lights and a lifetime warranty. It was a stupid purchase that I lost twenty minutes later as it broke off the cool leash I attached to my shorts, but it was great for all twenty minutes I had it for. I have two or three other flashlights similar to my impulsive buy last weekend but I left them at home and loved the idea of more accessories.

Check out the deals on accessories for your next trip, hike, or outside adventure:
