In between, race organizers IMG have designed stages to the ski resort of Davos, Lumino in the southern canton of Ticino, Stäfa, Serfaus in Austria, Bad Zurzach in the north, Vallorbe in Romandie, Crans Montana and then around Berne.” (info from Versus.com)

I am Specialized

Specialized has recently created a web site to show-off their athletes and teams. The site is filled with info on the riders, their accomplishments, photos and behind-the-scenes footage. The site is awesome. If you are staring at your computer late in the afternoon and mentally toast – head on over to iamspecialized.com/. The perfect answer to endless email and pointless meetings.

Vintage Steel

1974 Peugeot UE-8 Road Bike
Most of us pride ourselves on having bikes made of ultralight modern materials like carbon and aluminum. A few of us can even go for hours discussing the differences in carbon fiber thicknesses. But if you have never had the pleasure of riding a steel frame you are missing a part of classic cycling history.

We recommend a few sites to check out bikes:
Classic Rendezvous
Vintage Cycling Press
The Classic & Antique Bicycle Exchange
Vintage Trek

Rock N’ Road Cyclery

It was close to 6 on Friday afternoon and I was heading from San Diego to LA. My Specialized Epic needed a little attention. I decided to make a stop at the Irvine Rock store and hope they might have time in the next week to adjust the shifting, check the brakes and the shocks. I pushed the bike into the store and I was met by a mechanic. He grabbed the bike and said – do you have 15 minutes? Surprised, I blurted yes.
Soon I was driving home with a race ready bike. Being that I bought my bike at RN’R I owed nothing.
Thanks.

Fort Collins Criterium series information

FORT COLLINS, CO – June 10, 2009 – Bicycle racing is coming to Old Town Fort Collins this summer. On June 2, the Fort Collins City Council approved an event permit that will grant its applicants the ability to use City-owned property to host a weekly bicycle criterium race. The result is the City Streets Crit, a cooperative effort to bring community-based bicycle racing to downtown Fort Collins.

Starting Tuesday June 16th, cycling enthusiasts of all ages and abilities will have the opportunity to race their bikes on the tarmac of the City Streets department just north of New Belgium Brewery at 625 Ninth Street. The 1km closed course offers plenty of room for riders to open it up. It also boasts an alley between two brick buildings, adding an Old Town feel to the venue.

Race promoters are encouraging everyone to ride to the race and spectators are welcome. Kids races are free and adult races are $10. Racing starts June 16 at 6pm.

Wimbledon 2008 Men’s Final – Nadal v Federer

Back in 2008 we visited Wimbledon mid-week during the tournament. A few days later Rafael Nadal beat five-time champion Roger Federer by winning the longest-ever Wimbledon men’s final. B and I were in Roma and could not find a TV during the heat wave to watch the final. This week I ordered up the DVD from Netflix and watched a bunch of it last night.

Why am I mentioning this? Have you ever been in a race against some competitor that just won’t let you be? You beat him out of the water, she passes you on the bike, you run shoulder to shoulder toward the finish and edge them into the funnel at the finish. Maybe even dropping a loose elbow along the way.

If so, then you have to sit down and watch this classic. It is simply amazing sport. It began at 2.35 pm, 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7 tie-break), 6-7 (8-10 tie-break), 9-7 and after a couple of breaks for rain it ended at 9.15pm. We all know who wins, but it truly is one of the greatest Grand Slam finals of all time. It will change your perspective on competition.

Eight-Year-Old Dispute Between Armstrong, LeMond Could Be Headed to a Courtroom

JUNE 11, 2009; The Wall Street Journal
By REED ALBERGOTTI

In August 2001, former professional cyclist George Mount was about to hop on his bike and embark on a leisurely ride in Northern California with his friend, three-time Tour de France winner Greg LeMond, when Mr. LeMond got a call on his mobile phone. It was Lance Armstrong, America’s other legendary cyclist.

According to Mr. Mount, Mr. Armstrong had read comments Mr. LeMond had made about him in an article about doping allegations in the Guardian newspaper, where Mr. LeMond was quoted as saying he was “disappointed” with Mr. Armstrong’s association with a controversial Italian doctor.

When Mr. Armstrong was done ripping into Mr. LeMond on the phone that day, Mr. Mount recalled, Mr. LeMond looked “like somebody had walked up and slapped him.”

That moment, now eight years past, proved to be the beginning of what has become one of the most enduring feuds in American sports — one that has spawned personal attacks and a lawsuit. The battle between the two men has been playing out in federal district court in Minnesota, where Mr. LeMond is suing the bicycle maker Trek alleging breach of contract — claiming, in part, that Mr. Armstrong was responsible for Trek’s alleged neglect of Mr. LeMond’s signature line of bikes.
