I hate to be a wet blanket when this will be my first official post for Outside All Day, but sometimes you have to do these things for the greater good. In this case, the good is the fact that I’m getting my butt kicked around by Mother Nature and I know I’m not the only one.
Every year, spring rolls around and people wax poetic about the new beginnings, the re-birth of summer.
Ack, it makes me sick?!
Seriously, I know its pretty and I know that summer is right around the corner, but really, here in Colorado, spring is the season of the bi-polar weather beast. One day it will be sunny and dry right around the 70 degree mark and the next its 41 and snowing side ways. How is a guy supposed to train outside when every time I leave the house I have to experience the entire spectrum of weather in an after noon. I mean c’mon of goodness sake???
Lets take this last weekend, on Friday I hit up one of my favorite places to boulder, I was able to do some laps on my outdoor gym and get a great workout in before 12. Then, it started to rain…Good I said, we need the moisture, then it started to blow…

Photo: Piano is the nice morning.
Good I said, it spreads the seeds around and makes everything pretty when it blooms. Then it started to get freakin cold…
O.K. now I have no more nice things to say, I just wanted to be outside and climb???? At my son’s soccer game on Saturday, the wind was blowing so hard, they only needed to kick the ball once and they could score a goal on the opposite side of the field???
O.K. I know, get over it, but I can’t. Not now anyway. I keep hoping and I get teases, and then the bottom falls out. Last night at 9 I let the dog out, and the snow was falling in earnest. Yes, snow…serious??
Once summer does get here, I know it will be great, till then, I just keep all my gear by the door. Everything from my ice climbing stuff to my fair weather cragging gear. Because really, in these times. I have no idea what I’m doing from one day to the next.

Photo: It’s cold outside!
And when I think about it, that’s the reason I really do love spring.
