I’m a hypocrite, I admit it. Julie and I have been discussing whether or not to sign Carter up for group sports like a lot of his buddies are this spring. With a selfish agenda, I wasn’t wild about giving up my Saturday to go and watch him run a around a field kicking a ball. However, on Wednesday of last week, my heart changed when I discovered that the Edora Park BMX Racetrack would be relocating to Southeast Community Park. This park is less than a 1/2 mile from our house. We rode over as a family to check out the new track, it’s freakin awesome. They open on May 8 and I’m thinking Carter can be off of his training wheels and racing by July 1. You can call me a BMX dad. I may need to get a BMX bike now.

After speaking with my buddy Mark Dowds earlier this week he filled me in on some essentials to carry in a pack during an ultra. Apparently aid stations run out of food and drink all of the time, his word of advice was to be prepared to support yourself. Good word.

Essential items to carry during an ultra:
Duct tape
Jelly beans
Toilet paper
Extra electrolyte (Motor Tabs for me)
Extra energy bars
Jacket
Extra socks
Phone so you can call your wife to came and save you

I tried this pack on last night in the Portland North Face store and it felt really good.
