The Top 10 Health and Fitness Trends of 2010

The Top 10 Health and Fitness Trends of 2010
By John Durant of Hunter-Gatherer

I’m the type of person who will jump on any new trend, just because it’s cool. The Thigh Master, Tai Bo — hell, if I had been alive in the 70s I would have been pounding out the miles in newfangled pair of Nikes instead of barefoot running. Because I’m flaky like that. So let’s see what Outside Magazine had to say about the Top 10 Health and Fitness Trends of 2010.

10. iFitness (health apps) — I should track more stuff, but I don’t. Tracking will continue to improve, this is here to stay.

9. Vitamin D — Ding, ding, ding!

I got Sellers a pair of Sketchers Shape-Up Shoes for Christmas. He said they were his favorite gift this year and sent me this amazing collage to say thank you.

You are very welcome Greg!

Mammoth has the most snow in the WORLD

After Mammoth got dumped on with 15+ feet of snow we tagged along with ski patrol while they did there avalanche control to open the top. After they were through we went to chair 14 to catch some shots of some locals pro’s Gabe Taylor, Tucker Watson, and Eric Jackson.

One day I will race the GORE-TEX TransRockies Run

The TransRockies Run is on my bucket list. 1 year ago, I would have said I couldn’t complete it, today I’d say I just can’t afford it.

What is it…

A New Epic in the Rockies

This year from August 21-26, 200 teams of two and 50 RUN3 solo runners will take on the Colorado Rockies for a running experience like no other. During the six days of the GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run, runners from all over the world will run, eat and live together as they cover 115 miles of spectacular scenery, fully supported by a dedicated and professional Event Team who will look after all aspects of their food, accommodations and on-course support.

It’s one of those races that feels epic, massive, larger than life. The problem is, it would cost around $1,500. Ouch, probably not going to happen anytime soon.

Running from Buena Vista to Beaver Creek just sounds cool…if there’s anyone out there that wants to sponsor me, let me know :)

Season ender: The best (and worst) of U.S. bike racing in 2010

Season ender: The best (and worst) of U.S. bike racing in 2010
By Brian Holcombe of VeloNews.com
Published Dec 24th 2010 6:00 PM EST

The 2010 U.S. road season had a little bit of everything. There were little known domestics like Andrew Talansky battling top international pros at the Tour of the Gila. Caleb Fairly broke through with a win at the Tour of the Battenkill in horrendous conditions. Neither ride made the six top moments in U.S. racing, so which ones did?

We took a look at the best (and worst) of U.S. racing this year with VeloNews‘ North American Male Rider of the Year, Ben Day (Fly V Australia).

Very tentative 2011 race schedule

I’m a planner. I like to plan, it makes me happy. Right now I feel like I’m in limbo with my training and overall nutrition. The last few weeks due to life and schedule I’ve only been attending EmerFit 1 time a week. My weight is a few pounds up and overall I feel pretty gross. The only way to get out of this funk is to get my plan set.

Base miles will start in January VERY slowly along with getting back to 2 days a week at EmerFit. Trail Runner Mag has complied hundreds of races in their January issue. I’d recommend picking it up as you plan your schedule.

Tentative 2011 race plan:

05/29 – Wyoming Trail Marathon – 26.2 miles
06/18 – Bighorn Mountain Wild And Scenic Trail Run – 50k
07/16 – Life Time Fitness Leadville Silver Rush – 50 miles
09/17 – Steamboat Springs Run, Rabbit, Run – 50 miles
09/18 – All Cyclocross all the time
10/08 – XTERRA Marathon Of Trail Races – 26.2 miles

My goal is to knock out 2, 50 mile races this year along with a few 50k races. Both of the 50 miles races are hard and the Leadville race will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Right now there is a big hole in August. I may include an Xterra Triathlon or 2 as a way to vary up the training and wear and tear on my body/knees/feet. There are also several fun local trail races in Fort Collins throughout August I can check out. The 2 A races will be the Leadville 50 and the Run, Rabbit Run.

If I can stay healthy and somewhat injury free, this will be an expectational season!

3 reasons to purchase Wooden Bike Coffee

3 reasons to purchase Wooden Bike Coffee

1. It supports Rwandan farmers and the economic development of an impoverished nation.
2. 10% of your purchase helps fund Project Rwanda.
3. It’s the best coffee in the world! From the volcanic hills of Rwanda grows the prestigious heirloom “bourbon” varieties of Coffee Arabica, in short, the flavor is amazing.

The coffee is the best, I’ve been drinking it for years. The funds ALL go to a cause I really care about.

More info at: http://woodenbikecoffee.com/store/specialty-coffee

Don’t forget about the 50 Mile Ride coming up on April 30, 2011. This ride also benefits Project Rwanda.
