3 reasons to purchase Wooden Bike Coffee

3 reasons to purchase Wooden Bike Coffee

1. It supports Rwandan farmers and the economic development of an impoverished nation.
2. 10% of your purchase helps fund Project Rwanda.
3. It’s the best coffee in the world! From the volcanic hills of Rwanda grows the prestigious heirloom “bourbon” varieties of Coffee Arabica, in short, the flavor is amazing.

The coffee is the best, I’ve been drinking it for years. The funds ALL go to a cause I really care about.

Don’t forget about the 50 Mile Ride coming up on April 30, 2011. This ride also benefits Project Rwanda.

Quit the schedule they’ve put together. I’m hoping to race a few this season. They have a few CO races that may work very well into my overall training schedule. They are bold above.

My son Carter is a rock star and this video proves it!

Carter (my 4 year old) had a Christmas performance today at his pre-school. After the performance, the director, Michelle, got up and said they had a last minute surprise solo added to the performance. Carter had asked 5 minutes before the show if he could sing.

Carter is the man! I’m soooooo proud of him…

Check out NaturalAthleteClinic.com

Local Fort Collins cyclist, triathlete and Doctor, Jason Barker has started a website called NaturalAthleteClinic.com. Jason is an expert in natural sports medicine. He specializes in providing unique, proven solutions for athletes that want more than just ibuprofen for their sports and performance-related health issues. He provides relevant, scientific information about how you can improve your overall health and athletic performance.

I’m excited about this site and what it can do to help inform athletes about alternative solutions for taking care of themselves. Jason is all about prevention and wellness, rather than medicating symptoms with drugs that really don’t heal or treat the original cause. Jason is BRILLIANT in sports medicine and has become a good buddy of mine. I trust him a ton.

Have you ever hiked above 14,000 ft? I have

Jobe just sent me a few pics of our hike on Longs Peak in August of this year.

Longs Peak = 14,259 ft

The entire hike took Jobe and I just under 8 hours. We left at 2am and were eating Taco Bell in Estes Park by 2pm. Fun day. We even ran the first few miles in the pitch black with our crappy head lights.

Jobe and I getting our row on at EmerFit

A fun photo from one of last week’s CrossFit workouts at EmerFit:
- Team row of 4000 meters
- Each team member could not row more than 500 meters at one time
- While resting the team member had to hold the 32kg Kettle Bell (70.4 lbs)
- If you dropped the kettle bell each team member had to do 5 burpees (Jobe and I held on tight)

Jobe (buddy from work) and I teamed up to knock this out. I think our time was 15:00 something. The rest time was almost as hard as the rowing. The weight of the kettle bell was dragging you down so you could never get air back in your lungs. I have a love/hate relationship with the row.

It was brutal and I gladly ate thousands of Thanksgiving calories as a way to repay myself for the hard work.

The 50 Mile Ride Five – April 30, 2011

50 Mile Ride Five
Staging and post-ride party at Cook’s Corner
April 30, 2011
More info at: http://50mr.com

Five years ago my good buddy Doug Grant started a fundraiser mountain bike ride in Orange County to benefit a non-profit called Project Rwanda founded by mountain bike legend Tom Ritchey.

Project Rwanda is committed to furthering the economic development of Rwanda through initiatives based on the bicycle as a tool and symbol of hope. Their goal is to use the bike to help boost the Rwandan economy as well as re-brand Rwanda as a beautiful and safe place to do business and visit freely.

In the last 4 years, the 50 Mile Ride has raised over $150,000 dollars for Project Rwanda.

If you can ride, go ride, if you can donate, please donate! This event is changing lives.

A bunch of “outside all day” things I’m thankful for in 2010…

2010 was a fun year to spend outside. Below is a quick list of things I’m thankful for in relation to the time I spend outside.

1. A loving God that created the outdoors. Fort Collins is beautiful.

2. A wife that allows me to train for crazy things. Her support was beyond what could have been expected and showed her love me in many ways.

3. Discovering CrossFit and more importantly a community of trainers (Brad, Jeff, Chris and John) and athletes at Emergent Fitness. Emergent Fitness has changed my life.

4. Mike Porter, Dave Sheek, Brandon Groza and Craig Demartino for challenging me to do things I didn’t think I could do.

5. The Velo-One Cyclocross Team for a super fun cross season. I was slow, but it was still fun.

6. Greg Sellers at Motor Tabs for creating and being the best hydration product on the planet.

7. The Brooks Cascadia trail running shoe for getting me thru my first Ultra Marathon.

8. Rich and Dave from Fluid Recovery from their generosity and creation of an exceptional product.

9. The Paleo diet and The Whole 9 eating plan for giving me the tools required to lose 25 pounds. Thanks for all of the advice Brad and Jeff.

If you’re my buddy, you know why I train. I train to be healthy and to show my kids what competition (winning and losing) and a fun life spent outdoors looks like. In 2010 I was able to decrease my cholesterol levels by over 40 points, putting me into a zone that my Doctor now says is healthy. That was hard but worth it. 2010 was a really good year. Looking forward to many more adventures in 2011.
