More info at: http://50mr.com

Five years ago my good buddy Doug Grant started a fundraiser mountain bike ride in Orange County to benefit a non-profit called Project Rwanda founded by mountain bike legend Tom Ritchey.

Project Rwanda is committed to furthering the economic development of Rwanda through initiatives based on the bicycle as a tool and symbol of hope. Their goal is to use the bike to help boost the Rwandan economy as well as re-brand Rwanda as a beautiful and safe place to do business and visit freely.

In the last 4 years, the 50 Mile Ride has raised over $150,000 dollars for Project Rwanda.

If you can ride, go ride, if you can donate, please donate! This event is changing lives.

Last race they had 315 racers, and approx 200-300 spectators. It was a great “feel good family vibe” and very grassroots.

Onsite Registration: 4:00pm on-site registration till race start

Preride: Race day only- 4:30pm-5:30pm- Irvine Lake is private property, and course is a closed course. Please do not attempt to pre-ride the course, as Irvine Lake has been very generous to allow us to host the race on their property. Thank you for helping us keep this relationship in good standing.

Race Start: 6:00pm sharp!

Course : 3.75 mile loop throughout the Irvine Lake Area. Course consists of a mix of singletrack and fire roads. Climbs and various obstacles throughout. Number of laps vary by classes. Beginner [2 laps], Sport [3 laps], Expert [4 laps]

On-Site Registration at race is $25.

The best part of the series is that they are working in partnership with my good buddy Doug Grant and the 50 Mile Ride to benefit Project Rwanda. It’s also always fun to see Rock N Road Cyclery involved in local events. Miss my buddies there.

Go race!

Pictures from the 50 Mile Ride

The 3rd annual 50 Mile Ride is going down in Orange County, California today. From what I’ve heard over 400 riders are riding the 50 mile leg that kicked off at 7am this morning. 100% off the money raised is given to Project Rwanda.

Greg Sellers from Motor Tabs is at the event, he’s the official hydration drink of the day. He donated thousands of Motor Tabs to the pull this off. Greg and Sheek will be sending me pics all day and I’ll keep updating this post.

The mighty Sheek!

Mr. Sellers

Matt Ford (Mr. Rock N Road) and Big Mike Rogan

Meredith and some Trail Angels post ride…

Special shout out to Doug Grant and crew for pulling this off again, my family (Alison, Alex and Steph) for helping 3 years in a row, Sheek, Motor Tabs and Rock N Road. Great job guys.

More pictures to come throughout the day.

Project Rwanda has an article in the newest Outside Magazine

In this month’s issue of Outside Magazine there’s a great article on my favorite non-profit Project Rwanda. The article is about a trip the author took with Tom Ritchey in the fall of 07′ to Rwanda and highlights my good buddy Doug Grant (co-founder of 50 Mile Ride). The article revolves around the Wooden Bike Classic that Tom hosts. The magazine is worth picking up for this article alone.

Web extras on the article can be found at the link below. Check out the photo gallery.

Another great article on their website called “The World’s Toughest Bike Race Is Not in France”. I read it in the July issue and loved it, great read. Click here to check it out.
