Landis wore a wire, recorded video footage to implicate Michael Ball in doping investigation
by Shane Stokes
December 19, 2010

Controversial Rock Racing owner Michael Ball was implicated in doping matters by Floyd Landis, who wore a hidden wire and recorded video footage for federal agents.

According to an unnamed source who spoke to the New York Daily News, Landis filmed what is thought to have been human growth hormone and other doping products in the refrigerator at Ball’s luxury apartment in Marina Del Rey, California. The audio and video data was then used by FDA agent Jeff Novitzky to secure a search warrant, which in turn led to the seizure of banned substances.

Floyd Landis will wear a big OUCH on his chest for another season. The OUCH Sports Medicine Center is new co-sponsor of the pro cycling team formed by Rashaan Bahati, now to be known as the OUCH-Bahati Foundation team. Landis joined the team last month.

The OUCH-Bahati Foundation Team is in my opinion, the pro continental team to watch this year. They are stacked with super stars. Motor Tabs is one of the team supporters this year, making them even more awesome.

I’m very excited for Liège-Bastogne-Liège today!!!!! Andy Schleck is the man!

French Judge Issues Arrest Warrant For Landis

French Judge Issues Arrest Warrant For Landis
Floyd Landis Accused Of Anti-Doping Data Hacking
SAMUEL PETREQUIN, AP Sports Writer

PARIS – A French judge has issued an international arrest warrant for U.S. cyclist Floyd Landis in connection with a case of data hacking at a doping laboratory, France’s anti-doping chief said Monday. Pierre Bordry told The Associated Press that French judge Thomas Cassuto is seeking to question Landis about computer hacking dating back to September 2006 at the Chatenay-Malabry lab. Months earlier, the laboratory near Paris had uncovered abnormally elevated testosterone levels in Landis’ samples collected in the run-up to his 2006 Tour de France victory.

2009 Tour of California Versus ad

Amgen Tour of California

I have my money on Levi Leiphemier or Christian Vandevelde for the overall victory. I’m also claiming that Floyd Landis will win stage 8, Rancho Bernardo to Escondido, based solely on his Palomar Mountain performance.

Riding with Austin Carroll of Rock Racing

Two nights ago Julie gave me a pass to go and spin my legs on the road bike. Riding consistency is out but riding when I get the chance is in. I quickly took her up on the offer and headed out after work to meet her in Irvine for some dinner. Cruising along rockin out to my iPod I rolled past a dude dialed in with a Rock Racing kit and bike set-up. I’m intrigued and slowly begin to stock him. If you know me, you know I love the Rock Racing team. He was fixing something on his bike so I waited for him on the path.

As he rolled by I glanced at him like I wanted to talk. He pulled out his ear buds and we proceed to ride together for the next 5 miles. My new BFF is a pro racer by the name of Austin Carroll. In between the awkard moments of me almost crashing and asking prying questions he was truly a super nice dude. I think I was star struck as this was the first pro I had ever met. The conversation was fun, I asked him questions about Rock Racing, Floyd Landis, racing in Europe (he leaves to race on Saturday), training, being a pro, etc. The stuff you want to ask but never get the chance. We have an interview planned for when he returns from Europe.

Check him out at:

Nice guy and he didn’t even mind that I almost made him crash which would ruin the rest of his season.

I ended up volunteering for the USA Cycling Road National Championships today in Irvine. I spent from 6 am – 12pm on the corner of Portola and Culver directing traffic and sweating. What an incredible event, each time the riders roared by my pulse jumped! It’s the most intense 10 seconds you can image as the peloton speeds past at 35 mph.

The entire thing was first class and the riding was at the highest caliber. Another shout out to Jet Cycling and Rock N Road Cyclery for the quality of event they produced.

After Carter’s nap we headed to the Ladera Ranch Grand Prix. Super fun to hang with Old Man Sellers from Motor Tabs and Richard Julian Smith from Fluid Recovery Products. Carter ran in the field most of the time and I spent the afernoon chasing him while Julie, Alison and Alex kicked back in the shade sipping on chilled Fluid. Story of my life.

In other cycling news, David Sheek spotted Floyd Landis at the Food Park ride on Saturday. He offered him an Outside All Day Cycling contract and Floyd said he would think about it. I think we have a shot and getting him on board.

George Hincapie is getting a fifth chance at winning Olympic gold. The longtime American cycling star — best known for helping Lance Armstrong win the Tour de France seven consecutive times — was announced Tuesday as one of nine discretionary selections to the U.S. Olympic team that’ll race in Beijing next month. Hincapie, 35, becomes the first U.S. racer to make five Olympic cycling teams. No other American has raced a bike in more than three.

Cyclist Floyd Landis loses appeal of doping ban
By Associated Press
July 1, 2008

Floyd Landis used the arbitration process as public theater to try to prove a point and regain his reputation. In the latest attempt that almost certainly will be his last, the anti-doping establishment slapped down the one-time 2006 Tour de France winner once more, ruling Landis didn’t play fair, on the bike or in the hearing room. A three-person panel at the Court of Arbitration for Sport agreed with a previous panel’s decision, ruling Monday that Landis’ positive doping test at the Tour two years ago was, indeed, valid.

The Competitors Radio Show

I work out alone so I have been digging into the podcast library on iTunes. This week I found The Competitors Radio Show. Radio hosts Bob Babbitt and Paul Huddle chat with athletes and we get to listen in. Greg LeMond has been in the press a bunch. As you may know Trek is sueing to end their relationship with his cycling company. I have been checking the bike insiders views on this and they are taking LeMond to the mat. Seems like he might be jealous of Lance’s success and wants to bring him down. Crazy? Maybe? More than likely not. Over the course of two days I have listened to Lemond’s interview, one with Betsy Andreu (who seems a bit crazy or passionate) and two with David Walsh (author of From Lance to Landis: Inside the American Doping Controversy at the Tour de France). Now I know Lance is quite the American hero but you should listen to some of the Competitors Radio Show podcasts on cycling and doping.

Landis, Stripped of Tour Title, Begins Final Appeal

I love cycling, I hate doping, Astana not making this year’s tour is a perfect example why it sucks.

Landis, Stripped of Tour Title, Begins Final Appeal
By IAN AUSTEN
Published: March 19, 2008

Floyd Landis will attempt to overturn a doping ruling that stripped him of the 2006 Tour de France title during a five-day appeal hearing that begins Wednesday. But unlike the highly public and sometimes dramatic initial examination of his case, this hearing will take place in private at a Manhattan law office.

Landis, 32, has spent millions of dollars on a defense that tried to cast doubt on the scientific validity of doping tests and the procedures followed at antidoping labs. But last September, in a 2-to-1 ruling, a United States Anti-Doping Agency arbitration panel concluded that Landis had used synthetic testosterone to achieve his comeback win at the 2006 Tour. As a result, he was barred from racing until January 2009.
