Cyclocross in Fort Collins this fall

Our friends over at YourGrouRide.com are working with Peloton Cycles and the Fort Collins Cycling Team to bring cyclocross back to Fort Collins this fall.

You might be aware of a group that’s working pretty hard to bring bike racing back to Fort Collins. Called the NCCE – or Northern Colorado Cycling Events – the group is dedicated to developing a thriving cycling race culture in northern Colorado. Through a lot of hard work and dedication from quite a few of your local cycling guys, 2010 is already shaping up to be a monumental year for having fun on the bicycles up here. Recently we’ve added another exciting event – an ACA sanctioned cyclocross race. I won’t go into details on the process, but of 26 available race dates, the ACA had over 100 race date requests. With that kind of response, the ACA was initially set to allocate the dates to promoters that had already proven themselves. Had the ACA had stuck to their original intention, we would have been long off the list. But they didn’t. And we have a date.

Bahati will race with the the Bahati Foundation Pro Cycling Team

The last I had heard was that Rahsaan Bahati was going to continue to race with Rock Racing in the 2010 season. As of today, it’s confirmed he will be part of the 15 man roster making up the Bahati Foundation Pro Cycling Team. I think it’s cool that Colorado Premier Training will be one of the title sponsors.

According to YourGroupRide.com, 2 of the 15 riders are from Fort Collins, CO. That should mean that the team has a fun presence in my commnity.

Is that me getting the holeshot?

100_1320

Yes that is me getting the holeshot at last week’s New Belgium cyclocross race. The only problem was I lost it after 200 yards, but it was a glorious 200 yards. At least my JETT MTB gloves look sweet!

New Belgium Cyclocross Series:

Week 1 – 5th place
Week 2 – 8th place (Click here for pictures from last week’s race)

If I could stay healthy this would be a fun cross season. So far not so good.

Fort Collins Criterium series information

FORT COLLINS, CO – June 10, 2009 – Bicycle racing is coming to Old Town Fort Collins this summer. On June 2, the Fort Collins City Council approved an event permit that will grant its applicants the ability to use City-owned property to host a weekly bicycle criterium race. The result is the City Streets Crit, a cooperative effort to bring community-based bicycle racing to downtown Fort Collins.

Starting Tuesday June 16th, cycling enthusiasts of all ages and abilities will have the opportunity to race their bikes on the tarmac of the City Streets department just north of New Belgium Brewery at 625 Ninth Street. The 1km closed course offers plenty of room for riders to open it up. It also boasts an alley between two brick buildings, adding an Old Town feel to the venue.

Race promoters are encouraging everyone to ride to the race and spectators are welcome. Kids races are free and adult races are $10. Racing starts June 16 at 6pm.
