The first state race of 2008 was uncertain for most of us, Jason
First and I have been semi-pros for the past 2 seasons, but made the move to
the pro class for 08'. And, with
all the determination and hard work to move up as pro riders, Jason and I were
excited to race at Bonelli against seasoned pros. We have raced and worked
together in the past, so it wasn't new for us to do some teamwork to try and
isolate some of the competition. So, with 2 laps to go J and I were at the
front of the race taking turns to make sure the gap between us and the chasing
group could keep or increase before the final lap. Sean Donovan (KHS Cytomax)
was also at the front with us, but with 1/2 of a lap to go Jason made an attack
where I let him and his chaser, Sean Donovan, go and by the time we all arrived
at the last few climbs Jason and I created a nice gap on Sean. The race was not
over though as Jason and I had to finish. I found some extra energy to make a
final move on the last part of the course which, was the steepest part of the
course, and this burst allowed me to cross the finish line in first while Jason
was just a few seconds behind, for a great 1-2 finish for team Sho-Air/Rock N'
Road Cyclery.
Thank you ! !
